I started this blog to document the actions I am taking in trying to become an astronaut. It's my ultimate goal, my dream. Every week or so I post a new update to recap the week or add interesting pictures. I hope you enjoy the site and remember to follow your dreams no matter what others may think of them.

- Welcome to my blog! I grew up in California and later attended Texas A&M University to earn a Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering. I also hold a Master's degree in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. I previously worked at Kennedy Space Center for Boeing on the Space Shuttle Orbiter's Thermal Protection System. I transitioned to an engineering position with the MIT Lincoln Laboratory in Lexington, MA. I applied for the 2009 astronaut candidate program, but unfortunately did not get a call back. I applied again in early 2011 so fingers crossed! I currently am working on continuing my advanced education, involvement with space advocacy, and continuing to do all that I love in life!

I think at least once in my life I have to see a space shuttle launch; it sounds spectacular.
People are always so quick to condemn obsession. I am happy to witness your lust for experience, and hope you continue to burrow into your dream.
Check out the spaceflightnow mission status center. Looks like a piece of debris fell off during SRB separation.
I lived in southern Forida for a short period in 1988. I wanted so bad to go up to the Cape to see the launch but never made it. One day I would like to see you get your dream of being an astornaut and watch the liftoff in Florida.
I love it when someone has a pasion for something. I am still looking for mine.
Launches RULE! The Saturn 1B night launch for Skylab was the best. Saw the first shuttle launch from the Causeway-coolest thing I have ever seen. I LOVE your blog, it lets me get a feel like I am still in Florida. Yahoo News is running a Live Feed from the control room right now. If you find any information on the landing please post it. Rumor had it that it would be at Edwards this time...Time permitting I can make an Edwards landing...
Still, I'm sure nothing would beat a Saturn V launch.
I live in Southern California, so an Edwards landing would be great for me. If they do land at Edwards, you shouldn't have any problem with time. According to NASA, the landing date is August 7, a Sunday.
I would have liked to see it myself, a friend did and he said it was very good.

My photos of the launch are up already if you want to see them. I watched from the Hypergol Maintenance Facility on the roof.
We all rushed outside to see the launch (here in Orlando). We saw it for a moment, then it went behind the clouds, and stayed there. Ah, well, at least we glimpsed it. It was cool because the sidewalks were lined with people who had stepped out of their offices to see this historic launch.

Saturn Fives did rule..they were amazing. The 1B night launch was just so cool also.
Did you make it to Mohave for all the Space Ship One launches...? They rocked- like NASA in the early 70's. You making it to the Shuttle landing if it happens out here in California?

i watched the launch online via NASA TV... i missed the feeling of the vibrating ground, booming sound coming through the air, my house windows rattling and seeing the shuttle soar into the sky live from my front porch. after living on Merritt Island for 11 years, i just very recently left. one of the things i will miss about Florida is witnessing the launches. for me, watching/hearing/feeling each launch was as exciting as the first.

There were fighter jets chasing a little plane headed westward away from KSC and I couldn't help but watch them. Have you heard anything more about the pilots of that little plane that was in KSC airspace and if they faced any charges?

I think the astronuts are amazingly brave. i only saw the launch on tv, i think everyone watching was holding thier breath as the shuttle was launched. i did and i saw it on repeat!!

Yes I watched and so did my kids. They now want to see it land when they finish their mission. Just saw on the news where there may be a danger when it comes back and even if they try to fix it. I certainly hope not.

It was amazing, plus I was a little excited because there was going to be a launch on my birthday of all days!! How much better of a b-day gift can you get. :)
