I started this blog to document the actions I am taking in trying to become an astronaut. It's my ultimate goal, my dream. Every week or so I post a new update to recap the week or add interesting pictures. I hope you enjoy the site and remember to follow your dreams no matter what others may think of them.

Hi Damaris, this is a very interesting and delightful site. This is my first time visiting this page and I love it. I am not trying to offend you but I was wondering your ethnic background. As a child I've always been intrigued by space and astronauts and I still am. Please write back.
Hey Damaris:
Your site is really awesome..You make NASA and Space seem so much cooler to a young guy like myself. Keep up the good work and wish you the best!
Best Wishes,

Hi Damaris, I hope that we get to cheer for you one day as you launch into the stratasphere! I wrote a letter to NASA once asking them if they wanted me to join one of their crews (it is a funny letter)! If you want to read it and get a chuckle, feel free - my letters are linked from my blog site.
Keep up the good work, it's a one in a million dream!

I like the tail cap they use to make it aerodynamic for the trip back.

WOW, astronaut....
Great blog! I wanted to go into space myself but not near as much as you want to go! Do it for everyone who has dreams but most of all, do it for yourself!
Please post a picture of the shuttle piggyback on the 747.
Thanks
I want to fly a hang glider across the UK
Great site. Keep it Up. I was just wondering, instead of each country trying to explore space, why can't they pool the resources together, the talent, the money, the knowledge etc., and explore it together. I think this is the only way humans can go the farther reaches of space. Otherwise, it is just every country wasting money and achieving a little. United Space Organization (USO) like the United Nations.
hey, i'm becoming an astronaut too. that's a huge coincidence. i'm moving to austria as my first step. i guess that after a while i'll become an austrianaut. i hope it's not too difficult.
Hi!
Me llamo José Luis
Estuve leyendo tu BLOG con la ayuda de un traductor, por que yo no entiendo mucho tu idioma.
Pero muchas felicidades por ese valor que te caracteriza.
Eres una mujer muy valiente.
Regreso a leerte pronto, Bye!
hey damaris
My name is Chris and I am 14 years old. I have the same dream as you do. Maybe we can talk sometime.
My email is chrish110 at msn.com. I wish goodluck to you and I hope to follow in your tracks.
Hi it's Chris again, by the way, just incase you wanted to know, my blog is at chrish110.blogspot.com!
The piggy-back journey is fascinating. Does Burt Rutan's SpaceShipOne remind you of the orbiter on the 747?
Since you will soon be an astronaut, you might like to meet up with like-minded souls at Ecademy Space Exploration.

We are a new web forum, and starting to get some coverage of the alternative careers for astronauts, such as Space Adventures and Bigelow, as well as unmanned exploration like Transorbit.

Good luck to you! It's great to see a woman in science. You rock!
Damaris,
Hi from Jacksonville FL! "becominganastronaut" was listed on the blogger main page, I had to check it out. Last week I read an imaginative little SciFi book about space flight and zero gravity: "Ender's Game". This week I started rock climbing.

Great site! One of my best friends is hoping to one day become an astronaut too, but she's only 16, and a sophmore in high school. Good luck, and follow your heart!
You've got such a cool blog lady!
Hurrah for wanting to become an astronaut (a goal of mine, too)! :)
I'm in college and have a good friend whos all about the same dream. Alot of people doubt him, but I know he'll do it. I asked him about potential risks in being an astronaught and he mentioned you can die by falling off the couch. Rock on.
Nice picture, hope you achieve your dream, I'm an instructor, but can't help with spacecraft!
Dear Damaris, came upon your blog in Blog of Note. Coincidentally I have been shortlisted and am going for my physical test this coming September 3, for my country's first selection of potential astronauts to work in a venture into aerospace. Wish me luck!. My new motto in life: "Why reach for the sky when you can aim for the stars". See you at the ISS soon :)
Great dream Damaris! I wish thee all the luck! Get Set Go!!!
Good luck Damaris! I'm at a different stage of my life, but still remember the excitement of being your age and having the world in front of me. :-)
Good luck babe.......
Hope you achieve your dreams...
I hope to watch you on TV someday, perhaps on a spacewalk or something really cool. Keep the dream alive and know we're pulling for you.
What I really like about you (from what I gathered on the site) is that you have this dream and you aren't going to keep it just a dream...you've turned it into a goal and getting there step by step...it's a passion and I admire you for it! May all your dreams come true!
Came across this by accident... I really like it...
ps: next time you go to work any chance of hitching a ride.... I am sure that shapceship sharing will help cut down polution alot more than car sharing...
Becoming an astronaut is something I always wanted to do so I wish you all the best. Intersteing blog
All the best.

You are a huge moron and will never be an astronaut. No one likes you, you will never be hired for any job of relevancy in society. You are virtually useless, like an emo kid
So it's comments like the one that Mr. Bryan Rodman just wrote that actually motivate me to keep going. The fact that he has said I will never be hired for any job of relevancy....DO YOU GUYS EVEN THINK HE READ THAT I CURRENTLY WORK AT KSC??? Or you think that he has "googled" me to look at all the research I have done to get me where I am today. It's people like him that I would like to show everyone, that yes, they make you doubt what you want to do. But you can either give your dream a shot and not listen to them... or do nothing like them. It all matters in how strong you are as a person. Its your life.... you make of it what you want.
So please.. for those who have negative comments, please refrain from posting them.. or just simply navigate away from the page.
Thanks. Damaris
Keep your dream alive. Don't let any negativity sway you in any way. This is your pursuit. Push on and many blessings. Enjoyed your journey.
Damaris-
I'm glad you don't let negative fools get you down. Today, I want to dedicate a song to you. Go to
http://www.creativealibi.com/Songs/songs.html and click on the yellow note.
It was written by me and my writing partner. I think it speaks directly to your dreams. May all your stars align... God Bless.
What were the major accomplishments for the last shuttle mission besides:
1. Coming back
2. Pulling some cloth
3. Bringing home garbage from the ISSI.
Honestly. The media never reported anything else.
To my thinking, NASA has been wasting a lot of money trying to keep the shuttle going when they could be persuing other technologies like a space elevator or something else like normal rockets that don't land like an airplane.
Best of luck in your career. BTW - What is your opinion of private outfits like Scaled? Maybe they could use your talents, too.
