Did you get up for the Delta II launch? I hadn't seen a launch with my own eyes before, so I wasn't about to miss it... though the lack of sleep has made for a long day of PRCU testing. ;)

I couldn't sleep that well last night anyways so I kept dosing in and out of sleep..and then sure enough around 4:30am I heard a loud noise and thought...is that a plane?!?! I remembered it was the DII launch and I got up quickly, but I couldn't see anything out my window. So I just "listened" to it...and went back to bed. :)

This is going to be an eleven-day mission, so I hope that means that Atlantis will be landing on May 23, because I'm going on a cruise out of Port Canaveral that day! Hopefully I'll get to see it land from the cruise ship before we depart. (Well, I mean see it APPROACH the landing strip.) I watched Discovery land yesterday on TV and the whole time I was like, "I hope I get to see the next landing in person!" (Although I know these things tend to get delayed.) Would I be able to see the shuttle come in from Port Canaveral?

You may be able to see Atlantis landing depending on whether it comes in from the north or south. Definitely be on the look out for the Orbiter on the cruise ship though!

I saw yesterday's landing from the mid-field site. It's an awesome experience! I hope you get to see it, Tracy. If you're on deck, you'll almost certainly hear it!

Yeah, I figured I'd hear the sonic booms. I've heard them before while I was down there. I vacationed in the Orlando area to ring in the year 2000. I had just arrived at my hotel in Altamonte Springs on December 27, 1999, when I heard the sonic booms. I think I knew the shuttle was landing that day, but didn't think much of it since I wouldn't be at KSC. I didn't even realize what the booms were until I saw on the TV in the room that the shuttle was landing. The funny thing was that I heard the booms while I was in the bathroom! Needless to say, my friends and I have laughed about that over the years!

I was going to watch Atlantis land Saturday, May 23, from Titusville, before I got on the cruise ship, but the landing was postponed due to the weather. But when I got back from the cruise on May 30, I went to KSC and got to see Endeavour on the launch pad! (Well, the tops of the backs of the external fuel tank and the SRBs, anyway.) But at least I can say that I saw a shuttle on Pad 39B on the last full day that there would ever be a shuttle there!
