Becoming an astronaut isn't easy. I've never been an astronaut myself, so cannot speak from personal experience, but can tell you some trends I saw in people who have been astronauts, and that usually they have highly technical educational credentials (at least university level sciences), and almost all are or were military officers (I've seen ranks that are usually above Lieutenant).

You certainly have the technical component, just not the military service. Whether military service is in fact important for an astronaut, I don't know, it's just that I saw a lot of astronauts were always from the military, and they were always officers, not just enlisted personnel.

Good luck and hope you achieve your dream!
