C.O.L.B.E.R.T or Combined Operational Load Bearing External Resistance Treadmill.

The last US node, scheduled for launch in February 2010, will be called Tranquility, not Colbert.

NASA held a contest on what to name the node and even though Comedy Central comedian Steven Colbert clearly received a majority of the votes, he did not win the name of the node. However....he did score the name of the treadmill!

C.O.L.B.E.R.T or Combined Operational Load Bearing External Resistance Treadmill.

Here's the list of names NASA considered for the node:

Colbert 230,539
Serenity 190,196

Gaia 114,427
Legacy 35,339

No surprise they didn't go for Colbert, but I find it odd they didn't choose Serenity instead as the highest "serious" contender.

One of the driving name forces was Serenity. Many people voted for Serenity because of a Sci-Fi show of that name.

I watched all the episodes of Serenity series and was glad a better name was chosen for Node 3.

To be honest, the most attactive woman on the Serenity ship was a traveling supersonic prostitute! The show actually showed her going to a mining planet to make a man out of the ricest man of the town.

(The prostitute was bi-sexual because the show showed her bringing an important woman aboard.)

None of the shows were anything new. I saw it all on other shows.

The setting of the show itself was about a world war were only Americans and Chinese survived. So, the crew members would talk in Chinese occassionally.

Serenity was a futuristic spaceship in an old western environment. The spaceship had no weapons and was relatively old compared to others flying around. Another thing that I did not like about the show was a brain-drained super fighting young girl was on the ship with her doctor brother. I mean the girl was dim-witted, attractive, and had these super Ninja-like fighting powers. One episode was about one of the crew members being praised as a tremendous hero because he dropped all his stolen money on a mining town before he hired onto Serenity.

(The first pilot of the ship died!)

Another show was about another prostitute stealing the ship.

And, another show was about that ship stealing prostitute coming back and sharing her true story.

Thumbs down for Serenity, go Tranquility.
